Is the data and reporting tail wagging the subject assessments dog?!

Isaac Moore posed this question in his session for researchED Birmingham on Saturday and there was a groan of agreement from colleagues.

Too often, we’re expecting colleagues to provide data on how students are progressing when they haven’t had enough time to teach them the content.

This is particularly the case with subjects that don’t have the same time as the core subjects.

I think we need to be far more nuanced about how we collect data.

We also need to ask more questions, such as ‘What happens to the data?’, ‘How is it used?’ and above all ‘How does it improve learning?’

I explore the challenges and opportunities for assessment at KS3 in two webinars on Myatt & Co.

To access the webinars you just need an annual or group subscription to Myatt & Co.

If you or your school don’t already have an annual subscription, it’s easy to subscribe and you get access to the popular primary and secondary subject networks and ongoing professional development.

Until next time
