Sensible stuff, no quick fixes
Dear colleague
Here are some links that I hope you find helpful:
The Teachers' Collection is getting some lovely reviews for example from Sophie Debt, head of Fairburn Primary School:
‘The Teachers’ Collection has been a lifesaver because it has reduced any ambiguity around choosing a high-quality text to support learning across all curriculum areas. The high-quality resources accompanying each book have significantly reduced the workload of all our teaching staff. We also love the CPD videos attached to each book, which are supporting staff to further enhance their curriculum disciplinary knowledge appealing to all (from our ECT to SLT). We already feel it is excellent value for money given the time and effort it is saving.’

I shall be referring a great deal to Loic Menzies latest research Mapping the Way to Educational Equity. Some important insights relating to developing a fuller picture of young people’s lives, measuring opportunities as well as achievements, and giving young people informational agency.
There’s an important new report from Climate Adapted Pathways in Education: Implementing Climate Change Education in Schools: Constructive Hope in Action Particularly helpful are the case studies from schools for example, Cathie Paine, CEO, REAch2 Academy Trust.
It’s Allergy Awareness Week this week and I heard Zak Marks at a recent conference where he talked about living with his severe nut allergy and how it prompted him to set up Kitt Medical during his final year at university in 2020. He decided to make something that could store, monitor, and provide training for emergency anaphylaxis medication in public places. Something just like a defibrillator, but for allergies. Since launching at the start of 2023, they’ve partnered with over 300 schools and trained 5,000 staff members. Well worth checking out.
Exam Solutions has some great resources for online maths support - some free to access and some behind a paywall. Michael Olagunju talks about how his platform can support students’ revision in this short recording.
More CPD sessions from Adam Boxer: session 1. Supercharge your questioning on Mon 20th May and session 2. Supercharge your questioning: the next level on Mon 10th June suitable for those who’ve done session 1.
We are delighted to be hosting Leading the Diverse Curriculum which has been developed by Hannah Wilson and Bennie Kara, co-founders of Diverse Educators.
I had a great conversation with Bennie and Hannah about their reasons for developing the programme, the benefits of offering a self-paced CPD model with live check-ins and how they support colleagues to dive deep into this important work.
You can watch our conversation here.
Some insights from Sam Crome about leadership:
‘Personally, I became disillusioned by several leadership courses that obsessed over my role as an individual. What was my leadership style? Which traits to do I have that make me a credible leader? What I really wanted was to know the evidence behind group dynamics.’
‘After all, the group works together to get things done. I wanted to know more about how that can happen to both foster connection and relatedness, but also to aid team effectiveness, team development, team expertise, etc.’
That's why Sam began researching high-performing groups and has written The Power of Teams: How to create and lead thriving school teams and with Lekha Sharma has created an important course for Huh Academy on building great teams in schools.
You can watch my conversation with Lekha and Sam here.
More courses on the curriculum and leaders from the Huh Academy here. They are self-paced with live check-ins.

Until next time
