Supporting pupils with SEND to access the curriculum
Hello Colleague
There’s plenty of evidence that pupils enjoy learning difficult things. One example, from Alison Peacock’s ‘Assessment for Learning without Limits’ when pupils were interviewed as they went from Year 5 to Year 6 about their views on ability tables, their answers were astounding:
‘The ‘more able’ loved it, they enjoyed being the ‘bright ones’ and having special challenges set by the teacher.
The middle group were annoyed that they didn’t get the same work as the other group. They wanted to try harder work, but they’d worked out they would never be moved up as there were only six seats on the top table.
The ‘less able’ were affected the most. They felt ‘dumb’, useless. They thought they would never be allowed challenges as they usually worked with a teaching assistant.
This ‘less able’ group liked the sound of some of the challenges the top group had, but knew they would never get the chance.’
I’m doing some webinars to show how it’s possible to provide all our pupils with gorgeous, accessible content in geography, history and RE.
The webinars will be live and recorded. Each session will include a draft planning unit for KS1, KS2 and KS3.
Thursday 6th March 4-5pm - Supporting pupils with SEND to access the geography curriculum
Monday 10th March 4-5pm - Supporting pupils with SEND to access the history curriculum
Monday 17th March 4-5pm - Supporting pupils with SEND to access the RE curriculum
To access the webinars you just need an annual or group subscription to Myatt & Co.
You’ll also get access to over 500 CPD films, including the popular primary and secondary subject networks.
Until next time
Mary
PS The cost for Myatt & Co is going up shortly, so it’s worth getting on board now!
