The Reading Deficit – what can we do about it?

The good news is that 74% of pupils met the expected standard in reading in 2024.

The BAD news is that about a quarter did not.

This has big implications for pupils starting secondary school, where they will be reading more demanding texts.

The great news is that we have some impressive research to help improve reading outcomes for all pupils, including those with low starting points. In a new webinar on Myatt & Co on Tuesday 18th March 4-5pm. I’ll be sharing research from Dan Willingham, Steven Pinker and the University of Sussex to show that pupils can access demanding texts.

I’ll show how both primary and secondary schools are using this research achieve significantly improved results in reading for all their pupils and students, regardless of their starting points.

Available on Myatt & Co, live and recorded. Access with a group or annual subscription.

If you or your school don’t already have an annual subscription, it’s easy to subscribe and you get access to the popular primary and secondary subject networks and ongoing professional development - explore the content .

Until next time
