The tone of a text matters

When we’re considering which books to include in The Teachers’ Collection, we pay very careful attention to the tone.

We want the books to be talking to our pupils as though they are intelligent human beings, because that’s what they are!

This means that we don’t want books that are jazzed up – there’s no need if there’s a well-chosen text, because the material will speak for itself and doesn’t need sparkles and butterflies to make it appealing.

And on the other hand, we don’t want things to be dumbed down! There’s no need for ‘levelled’ readers for this work.

When we read aloud to pupils, they are able to absorb a lot of interesting content, even if they are novice readers.

Let’s treat our pupils with respect by offering them beautiful texts to help them learn the curriculum.

New for the Autumn term, I’m running a Primary Curriculum Accelerator for schools subscribed to The Teachers' Collection.
