Up for something challenging?

Global majority young people are over-represented in referrals to speech and language therapy.

The speech and language therapy profession is made up of 94% white women, and they operate within a research environment which normalises white, middle class ways of speaking and ‘others’ many black children.

In these two recordings with Warda Farah, we explore this situation and the implications for teachers, leaders, schools and young people.

There is much food for thought here which should encourage the education profession to re-think its approach to speech and language therapy and interventions in general.
